We promote Water Efficiency for the Future Generation

Since 2023, OMITIDE has been educating the public and farmers on rainwater harvesting, water management, and groundwater conservation.

We empower small-farm holders for year-round farming.

Please join us and participate in our water-saving mission and help us recharge the groundwater for a better tomorrow.

This is Sekoni Funmilayo. She planted pumpkin leaves in her garden but lost interest as the dry season approaches but when she attended Omitide's rainwater harvesting for irrigation training, she started irritating her pumpkin leaves and she was glad with the harvest.

As a small tomato farm holder in Bolorunduro community, Olufunke had struggled to keep her tomato farm surviving as a result of a lack of water and not having the necessary rainwater harvesting and irrigation kits. She planted tomatoes, hoping that there would be rain. Her tomato farm was at the point of fruiting when the rain suddenly stopped. This made her sad, and the thought of losing her investment on the farm almost got her depressed. She heard about Omitide rainwater harvesting training and beckoned Omitide to come to her aid. We visited her farm and saw that the tomatoes were water-stressed. Omitide sensitized her on what to do and gave her rainwater harvesting and irrigation kits. Her tomato farm came back to life at the scent of water. Her neighboring farmers saw her farm and indicated their interest in Omitide's work. She sold her harvested tomatoes and got returns on her investment. She was able to harvest rainwater for dry-season farming. She is grateful to Omitide and the donors for reviving her tomato farm and for giving her confidence that she can farm all year with the kits. For Olufunke, Omitide's impact in her life is not only immediate but a long-lasting one. The ripple effect of the kits is beyond her farm. It extends to her increasing market food supply towards food security, her income, the well-being of her children, and her financial contribution to her family as a mother and a wife.

One of our beneficiaries in the Isharun community, Olubunmi, is a hardworking commercial farmer who cultivates cassava, cocoa, maize, palm trees, and vegetables on her farmland. Like many smallholder farmers, she depended solely on erratic rainfall for her farming activities. Dry season farming was not even an option for her because of the lack of water. Everything changed when Olubunmi attended Omitide’s rainwater harvesting training. After the training, she received rainwater harvesting and irrigation kits to support her farming operations. During the rainy season, she intentionally harvested and stored rainwater, preparing ahead for the dry months. In the past, her vegetable farming business would come to a halt once the rains stopped. Her customers would turn to other suppliers, and her income would drop significantly. However, this time was different. When the dry season arrived, Olubunmi continued cultivating vegetables using the harvested rainwater. She confidently assured her customers of a steady supply of fresh produce. Through Omitide’s intervention, Olubunmi now practices dry season farming, retains her customers, increases her income, and contributes to improved food security in her community. What was once a seasonal business has now become a year-round source of livelihood and impact.
